Green building initiatives provide a key influence when tenants decide to sign a commercial real estate lease, according to a survey by GE Capital Real Estate. The survey, conducted over the past year, included more than 2,220 office tenants in the U.S., Canada, France, Germany, Sweden, the UK, Spain and Japan.

With all the snow we received in southern Vermont last week, it's a great time to be an energy nerd! Lots of snow on roofs means that it's easy to tell at a glance how energy efficient houses in the neighborhood are. I mean, it's not a thorough energy audit. But it's a good way to quickly get a sense of how buttoned up these houses are.

For some reason Americans are entirely familiar with wood stoves and fireplaces, but have only a hazy notion of what a masonry heater is.
